Influencer Spencer Barbosa is addressing a body shaming remark she received while vacationing with her fiancé.

On March 3, the 23 year old content creator shared on TikTok that she had asked a stranger to take a photo of her and her fiancé during their trip. After the woman returned the camera, she allegedly told Barbosa that she looked "chubby" in the picture.

At first, Barbosa thought she had misheard the comment. "I literally smiled because I thought she said cute and then I actually died when I realized," she wrote in the caption of a TikTok recounting the moment.

Later that day, Barbosa posted another video elaborating on what happened. Showing the photo on screen, she made it clear that the remark did not shake her confidence.

"I think I look fantastic," she said. "I asked you to take a photo of me, not give comments on my body. So this is your reminder that your words matter and the things you say to other people matter."

Barbosa described herself as a very confident person, but acknowledged that such a comment could have had a different impact on someone who is more insecure. She noted that if she were not secure in herself, the stranger's words might have ruined her day.

She also reflected on the idea that hurtful comments often reflect more about the speaker than the person they are directed at. According to Barbosa, most mean remarks are projections of personal insecurities. She expressed hope that the stranger might later realize the comment was unnecessary and learn from the experience.

In the comments, several followers asked how she and her fiancé reacted in the moment. Barbosa admitted they were too stunned to respond. She added that if being called chubby looks like the photo she shared, she is more than happy with it.

Barbosa, who announced her engagement to her fiancé Connor in November, often shares glimpses of her life online while keeping parts of her relationship private. She has previously said the two met at age 11 and reconnected years later after she reached out to him on social media.
