Travis Kelce is offering some straightforward advice for anyone nervous about asking someone out.
During a special hotline episode of the New Heights podcast, which he co hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, a caller reached out for guidance on how to approach a girl he was interested in dating. Travis, 36, responded thoughtfully, suggesting that the first step is figuring out what specifically draws you to the person. He encouraged the caller to consider whether he admires her sense of humor, her kindness, her style, or simply the way she carries herself.
Once that is clear, Travis recommended leading with a genuine compliment about that particular quality. He explained that offering a sincere compliment can open the door to conversation and help gauge how the other person feels. According to him, her reaction will provide insight into whether she might be open to going on a date. He described it as an easy and natural conversation starter that lets someone know you are interested.
Jason, 38, chimed in with a joke, referencing advice their father might have given about befriending a girl's less attractive friend to spark jealousy. Travis immediately dismissed that idea, calling it outdated and making clear that it is not the right approach. He emphasized that playing games is not the way to go.
Both brothers ultimately agreed that confidence is key. Jason summed it up simply by saying that if you want to ask someone out, you just have to do it. Travis echoed that sentiment, encouraging the caller to be bold and accept that the worst possible outcome is hearing no.
He also suggested having a loose plan in mind. Rather than vaguely asking to hang out, Travis recommended proposing a specific activity, whether it is seeing a movie, going to the mall, or doing something else enjoyable. Having a destination in mind, he said, makes the invitation more appealing and shows intention.
Travis knows a thing or two about taking chances. In 2023, he publicly shared on the podcast that he had hoped to meet Taylor Swift at her Eras Tour show and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number. That moment eventually led to their relationship and, in August 2025, their engagement. Swift later said his bold move was what first caught her attention.
