Miley Cyrus is set to return to the role that made her a household name.
According to Variety, the 33 year old singer and actress will appear in the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which premieres on Disney on March 24. The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will include an interview with Cyrus conducted by Alex Cooper, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast. Fans can also expect previously unseen footage and recreated sets from the original show.
Cyrus reflected on the significance of the role, saying, "Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I'll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I'm very proud of. This 'Hannahversary' is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who've stood by me for 20 years."
The original series premiered in 2006 and ran for four seasons. Cyrus portrayed Miley Stewart, a teenager living a double life as the pop star Hannah Montana. The franchise also included a feature film released in 2009. The role propelled Cyrus into stardom and contributed to her historic recognition in 2024 as the youngest person ever named a Disney Legend, an honor given to individuals who have had a major influence on the company.
In recent months, Cyrus has hinted at a reunion. At the 37th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in January, she mentioned that the team was "working hard" to prepare a celebration. She also told SiriusXM's TikTok Radio that she wanted to do something "special" for the show's 20th anniversary.
"I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today. Without Hannah, there really wouldn't be this kind of... this me," Cyrus explained, highlighting how pivotal the show has been for her career and personal identity.
The special promises a nostalgic journey for longtime fans and an inside look at the series that shaped a generation of viewers, while giving Cyrus the opportunity to celebrate her legacy in front of a live audience.
