Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber have officially joined the cast of Peacock and Sky’s hit drama The Day of the Jackal for its upcoming second season. Both actors will appear as series regulars, expanding the ensemble alongside Eddie Redmayne, who returns in the lead role as the elusive assassin known as the Jackal.

The Day of the Jackal is based on the classic novel by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 Universal film adaptation. The series centers on a highly skilled and nearly impossible to track lone assassin who takes on high profile hits for the highest possible fee. Redmayne’s portrayal of the Jackal in the first season earned widespread praise for its intensity and precision, helping to establish the show as one of the most talked about new dramas of the year.

Details about Opia and Schreiber’s characters as well as the official storyline for season two are being kept tightly under wraps. However, their addition signals a continued expansion of the show’s world and suggests that the next chapter will raise the stakes even further.

Season one of The Day of the Jackal was both a critical and commercial success. In the United Kingdom, it became the biggest new series launch in Sky’s history. In the United States, the show ranked among the Top Ten streaming original dramas during its debut week on November fourteen 2024 and again during the week of its finale on December twelve 2024, according to Nielsen data. This strong performance on both sides of the Atlantic cemented the series as a major franchise for Peacock and Sky.

Weruche Opia is widely recognized for her role as Terry in the acclaimed HBO series I May Destroy You. Her performance earned her a BAFTA TV nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, she has continued to build an impressive resume, recently completing filming on Netflix’s Ladies First and appearing in the Amazon limited series Bait, where she stars as the agent of Riz Ahmed’s character. She was also seen portraying Coretta Scott King in Genius MLK X on Hulu and Disney Plus. Opia is represented by Anonymous Content, Curtis Brown, and SOWDLLP.

Pablo Schreiber brings his own strong television pedigree to the series. He is best known for his role as George Pornstache Mendez on Orange Is the New Black, which earned him an Emmy Award nomination. He also starred as Master Chief in Paramount Plus’s Halo. His additional television credits include The Wire, Weeds, and American Gods. On the film side, his work includes Den of Thieves, The Manchurian Candidate, First Man, and Skyscraper. Schreiber can currently be seen in the Netflix miniseries His and Hers and the action thriller Motor City. He will next appear in the Apple TV series The Savant opposite Jessica Chastain. He is represented by Gersh and Circle Management and Production.

The Day of the Jackal is produced by Carnival Films, with executive producers Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Marianne Buckland. Eddie Redmayne also serves as an executive producer alongside writer David Harrower, director Brian Kirk, Sam Hoyle, Sue Naegle, and Ronan Bennett. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles international sales.

With two accomplished actors joining an already acclaimed series, anticipation for season two of The Day of the Jackal continues to build as the show prepares for its return.
