Meghan Trainor is opening up about the deeply personal decision behind welcoming her third child via surrogacy, saying it was made after careful medical guidance and heartfelt reflection.

The Grammy-winning singer, 32, and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, 33, welcomed their daughter, Mikey Moon, on Jan. 18 with the help of a surrogate. The couple are already parents to sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, both of whom Trainor carried herself.

"It wasn't our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey," Trainor tells People. "This was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family, and we're forever grateful that surrogacy was an option."

Trainor says she wanted to speak openly about the experience to help normalize conversations around alternative paths to parenthood. "Surrogacy is just another

beautiful way to build a family," she says. "It's not something to whisper about or judge. It's rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork."

The "All About That Bass" singer describes her surrogate as "selfless, strong, and incredibly loving," adding that they felt closely connected throughout the pregnancy. "She gave us the greatest gift of our lives," Trainor says. "I'll always be grateful for the care she showed our daughter."

The couple announced Mikey Moon's arrival on Instagram on Jan. 20, sharing family photos and expressing gratitude to the medical teams involved. Trainor revealed that her sons were thrilled about their new sibling and even helped choose her middle name.

Trainor has previously been candid about the challenges surrounding her earlier pregnancies, including postpartum trauma and health struggles following the births of Riley and Barry. She has spoken openly about PTSD, anxiety, and reaching a breaking point as a new mother.

Despite those difficulties, Trainor says motherhood remains her greatest motivation. "My kids made me want to be the best version of myself," she previously shared. Now, as a family of five, Trainor says she's embracing gratitude, honesty, and rest as they begin this new chapter together.
