Kiefer Sutherland is involved in a new legal battle. According to NBC4 and TMZ, the 24 star was arrested on January 12 after being accused of assaulting his ride-share driver in Los Angeles.
Officers responded to a call after midnight about an alleged assault involving a ride-share driver in the city's Hollywood neighborhood, according to reports. When they arrived on the scene, Sutherland was identified as the suspect and accused of attacking the driver after entering the vehicle.
There were no reported injuries that required medical attention, and the 59-year-old was arrested shortly after on suspicion of felony criminal threats, according to NBC4.
Sutherland was booked at 4:23 a.m. and released from custody over six hours later on $50,000 bond, according to arrest records obtained by E! News on January 13. According to the records, the initial court date was set for February 2.
Three months before his arrest, Sutherland made his holiday film debut in Tinsel Town, which also stars Rebel Wilson.
While the Emmy winner was excited to play the lead in a "small town, heartfelt English story," he also admitted that the Christmas comedy wasn't necessarily where he saw his acting career ending up.
"I've never really had a very specific idea of where I want to take my career," Sutherland told the Independent in an interview published Dec. 13, noting that becoming a father to daughter Sarah Sutherland, 37, with ex-wife Camelia Kath, helped shape that mindset. "I had children at a very young age. I had responsibilities and had to make a lot of decisions early in my career. There was a financial component to those decisions, which I regretted."
He admitted that he "had to pass on" some opportunities, saying, "I regret that."
