There's nothing stopping Shawn Mendes from pursuing his new romance.
Indeed, the "Stitches" singer was all smiles as he and Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine hugged each other while shopping at a Los Angeles grocery store on January 7.
In photos from the outing, the couple kept it casual, wearing jeans and sweaters while leaning into each other and exchanging multiple hugs. Shawn, 27, embraced Bruna, 30, from the front while leaning into her neck with his eyes closed, while in another photo, he wrapped his arms around her from the back.
The "Mercy" singer and Blue Beetle actress, who dated soccer star Neymar on and off between 2013 and 2018, sparked romance rumors last month when they were spotted vacationing together in Brazil, his first public romance since rumors he was dating Big Brother UK alum Charlie Travers in 2023.
Shawn's two-year relationship with Camila Cabello ended in 2021, with a brief reconciliation in 2023, and the Grammy nominee has kept his romantic life mostly private. However, in November 2024, he addressed the ongoing speculation about his sexuality while performing his song "The Mountain," which deals with the same subject.
"The truth is that I didn't get to do a lot of 15-year-old things and discover parts of myself that you do at 15," he shared. during a concert at the time. “There’s this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it so long. I think it’s kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”
Shawn also admitted that despite what he described as an "intrusion" into a "very personal" topic for him, he was finally ready to speak "freely."
"The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I'm just figuring it out like everyone," said the comedian. "And sometimes I don't know, but other times I do. And it feels very scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about it."
Shawn concluded, "I'm attempting to be very brave and simply allow myself to be human and feel things. And that's all I have to say about it for now."
