In a move that marks the legal conclusion of a high-profile Hollywood partnership, Amy Schumer officially filed for divorce from her husband, Chris Fischer, on January 6, 2026. The filing, submitted to a New York County court, comes just weeks after the couple publicly announced their separation and roughly one month before what would have been their eighth wedding anniversary.
The 44-year-old comedian first confirmed the split on December 12, 2025, through a candid Instagram post. Using her signature blend of humor and directness, Schumer shared a photo of the couple on a New York City subway, writing, “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years.” She was quick to dispel rumors regarding the cause of the breakup, jokingly clarifying that the split was not due to her recent weight loss or Fischer’s career as a James Beard Award-winning chef.
According to court records, the filing is listed as an uncontested joint divorce. This designation indicates that Schumer and Fischer have reached a mutual agreement on critical matters including finances, property division and the upbringing of their six-year-old son, Gene David Fischer. A source close to the pair described the separation as a “cohesive split,” noting that both parties remained committed to an amicable transition for the sake of their family.
Schumer and Fischer’s relationship was often a subject of public fascination, particularly after the release of the 2020 documentary series Expecting Amy, which chronicled her difficult pregnancy and Fischer’s autism diagnosis. Throughout their marriage, Schumer frequently praised Fischer’s perspective and supported his work as a farmer and chef, most notably in their Emmy-nominated show Amy Schumer Learns to Cook.
As she enters 2026, Schumer has embraced a theme of “self-care and self-love,” sharing on social media that she is “moving forward with no regrets.” While the legal dissolution of the marriage is now underway, the couple has emphasized a “family forever” philosophy, maintaining that they still hold deep love and respect for one another.
