Rachael Carpani's loved ones are mourning.
The Australian actress, who appeared in NCIS: Los Angeles, A&E's The Glades, Lifetime's Against the Wall, and Ben Affleck's 2020 picture The Way Back, died at the age of 45, her sister Georgia said.
"It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness in the early hours of Sunday, 7th December," she wrote in an Instagram post on Dec. 15. "The funeral will be a private event, to be held on Friday, 19th December, with close family and friends."
She went on: "The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements."
While comments were disabled on Georgia's photo, people flooded the comments section on a 2024 photo she shared with Rachael, best known for her role as Jodi Fountain on the Australian soap opera McLeod's Daughters, which aired for nearly 180 episodes.
"Condolences to your family," one user remarked. "I adored your sister Rachael from McLeod's Daughters. She was too young and quite gorgeous. Life may be really unjust at times.
Another user said, "On behalf of everyone in the Mc Leods Töchter Facebook Group Germany, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to you and your family. Rachel was a lovely woman who gave us many enjoyable moments during the series. "We will always keep them in our hearts."
A third person said, "I am deeply grieved to learn of your dear sister's loss. I'm so sorry. I grew up admiring her and wanting to be her. Sending love and hugs to your family."
Rachael raved in September about how cherished she felt after celebrating her 45th birthday with her family.
"Despite surviving in this waking nightmare of a world losing its humanity," she wrote on Instagram at the time, "you all reminded me how much we should value what we have. And given the current situation, we should all be really grateful every day."
"Thank you for bringing joy and ridiculousness into my world, even for a day or two," Rachael finished. "I didn't understand how much I needed it or how much I would love all that love."
