Hollywood is mourning a sudden loss. Wenne Alton Davis, an actor best known for performances on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Girls5eva, and New Amsterdam, died after being hit by a car in New York City on December 8, according to authorities and their agent. They were sixty.
According to police, Davis was hit by an SUV going on West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan when it made a left turn onto Broadway and collided with a pedestrian. Davis was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Davis' manager, Jamie Harris, told the New York Times that the actor was born Wendy Davis in North Carolina on October 18, 1965, but selected the name Wenne Alton Davis for his acting performances. Davis traveled to New York in their late twenties to work as a stand-up comedian before transitioning into acting. They also worked security at JFK International Airport.
"She had a huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at J.F.K.," she said in a press release, "and, most of all, for her family and her circle of friends (which was also huge)."
That group of acquaintances included Davis' next-door neighbor Edward Reynoso, who recounted a sweet experience the two shared just before Davis' passing when the 60-year-old told him, “I love you; I appreciate you.”
“It was so weird to me, because I felt like she was saying goodbye,” the 61-year-old told the New York Daily News in an interview published Dec. 10. “Now that this happened, it all seems so odd to me.”
Reynoso stated that Davis would always text him while leaving or returning home, and he was concerned when he did not receive a message from the actor on the evening of December 8.
"I found it weird," he stated. I was worried. I texted her, and she did not respond. To be honest, I'm feeling numb. I can't believe this."
In addition to Hollywood appearances, Davis, who played a cop on Maisel in 2023, frequently posted on Instagram about her love of boxing and how much she adored spending time with her cat Roxie.
