Sam Levinson has offered new insight into the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria, which returns in April after more than four years away from screens. The acclaimed HBO series follows a group of young adults navigating addiction, identity, betrayal and the consequences of their choices. With stars such as Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer returning, the series enters a new chapter that shifts the characters firmly into adulthood and the challenges that come with it.

Levinson revealed that the new season is set about five years into the future. He explained that this timeline felt natural because many of the characters would have completed university by then. Zendaya's character Rue is living in Mexico and struggling with deep debt to Laurie. Levinson described her storyline as one that will involve inventive attempts to survive and rebuild her life. The shift is expected to add a new layer of seriousness to her journey.

Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie is entering a vastly different phase of her life. She is living in the suburbs with Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, and the two are engaged. Levinson noted that Cassie has become heavily dependent on social media and feels envious of the seemingly glamorous lives of her former classmates. Their wedding, he added, will be a major moment in the season and one that viewers are unlikely to forget.

Hunter Schafer's character Jules is pursuing a future in the arts and attending an art school as she works toward building a career as a painter. Alexa Demie's character Maddy is working in Hollywood at a talent agency, marking a shift toward professional ambition for her character. Maude Apatow's Lexi is serving as an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone. These storylines position the characters in adult worlds that test their independence and growth.

Production for the season faced delays due to Hollywood strikes and the death of actor Angus Cloud in 2023. Cloud's character Fezco had been expected to play a significant role, and his passing deeply affected the cast and creative direction. Despite these challenges, Levinson affirmed that the season will push the narrative to new emotional depths. With its growing legacy, Euphoria remains one of HBO's most watched shows, continuing to shape contemporary television drama.
