Julia Roberts is more than just an attractive woman. She can also speak Italian.

At the 2025 Gotham Awards on December 1, the actress demonstrated her abilities by translating a speech for Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, who shared the Visionary Award with Julia for their work directing and starring in the psychological thriller After the Hunt.

In addition to demonstrating her language skills, she also displayed her sense of humor. After all, she wasn't translating Luca's speech to English—he'd already delivered it in English—but rather to Italian.

After Paul Rudd presented them with the honor, the duo began their performance.

"I not only had the great privilege of acting with Luca, but I will also be acting as his interpreter," Julia announced onstage, prompting Luca to deliver his speech. She translated his words into Italian one by one. He said, "Thank you, Gotham Awards," which she repeated—in Italian.

Julia continued to share more about their wonderful bond after finishing the joke.

"Everyone here is living their creative dreams; thank you for doing so in a world that appears to be crumbling. "This is the tape and glue that holds it together," she explained. "One of my great dreams was to work with Luca Guadagnino, and now that I’ve done it once, I just want to keep on doing it.”

And the couple isn't afraid to joke around while confessing their feelings. In fact, Julia went so far as to wear a cardigan honoring the director of Call Me By Your Name at the Venice Film Festival in September, which was covered in prints of his face.

"I love doing things like that during a press tour, wearing clothes with my cast mates' and directors' faces on them to show my love and appreciation," she told Vanity Fair at the time. "I like to have fun and mix it up, and not be serious all the time."
