Keanu Reeves has finally been reunited with several valuable items taken from his Los Angeles home during a 2023 burglary, after a months-long international investigation that stretched from California to Chile. The recovery marks the end of a complicated case involving a South American crime network known for targeting high-end homes in wealthy U.S. neighbourhoods.
Authorities say Reeves' Hollywood Hills home was one of several hits by a Chilean burglary ring that had been operating in Southern California. Among the actor's missing belongings were six luxury watches—including a specially engraved Rolex Submariner connected to the John Wick franchise—alongside other personal keepsakes. The group allegedly used tourist visas to enter the country, commit the robberies, and quickly leave with stolen items.
The case gained momentum when Chilean police uncovered a stash of high-value goods during a raid in Santiago in mid-2024. Investigators later confirmed that some of the recovered property matched items reported missing from Reeves' home. The Rolex, valued at around $9,500 but considered far more meaningful due to its customized inscription, was one of the standouts finds. Altogether, the watches returned to Reeves were estimated at about $125,000.
The FBI coordinated closely with Chilean authorities and the Los Angeles Police Department to track down the ring's members, share intelligence, and verify the origins of the items. Over time, agents linked the Chilean group to a series of similar robberies across multiple U.S. states, reinforcing concerns about highly organized theft operations that move across borders with speed and precision.
Reeves met federal investigators in New York in August to receive his belongings in person. Along with his watches, law enforcement also recovered property belonging to another victim connected to the case, a former Los Angeles resident whose jewellery and mementos had also been taken by the same ring.
Following the return, Reeves sent a handwritten letter expressing deep appreciation to the teams involved. He acknowledged the extensive coordination required to retrieve the items and praised the dedication and professionalism of both U.S. and Chilean investigators.
Officials involved in the operation say the successful recovery illustrates why international partnerships are essential as theft groups become more sophisticated. They emphasized that these networks are increasingly relying on careful planning, surveillance techniques, and loopholes in visa systems to target affluent communities and quickly escape overseas.
