Jennifer Lawrence has finally shared the screen with Robert Pattinson — nearly 15 years after losing the role that could have paired them much earlier. The Oscar-winning actress stars alongside the Twilight alum in Die My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s long-awaited new film, and she’s embracing the moment with humor.
Speaking to Variety at the film’s New York premiere on November 1, Lawrence couldn’t help but laugh about how her career has come full circle. “Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted,” she joked, referencing her failed audition for Twilight years ago.
Lawrence had previously revealed on The Rewatchables podcast in 2023 that she auditioned for the role of Bella Swan but was rejected almost immediately. “I didn’t even get a callback,” she said then. The part, of course, went to Kristen Stewart, launching one of the most successful film franchises of the 2000s. But fate had other plans. Within a year, Lawrence would land Winter’s Bone, which earned her first Oscar nomination, and soon after, she became a global star as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series.
Now, the two actors who once might have shared the Twilight spotlight are finally together in Die My Love, a feverish psychological drama that marks Ramsay’s first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. The film, based on Ariana Harwicz’s novel, follows Lawrence as a writer descending into madness amid the chaos of motherhood and a turbulent marriage. Pattinson plays her volatile husband, and together they deliver searing performances full of emotional intensity and unrestrained confrontation.
On-screen, the duo trade explosive arguments and raw emotion, but off-screen, Lawrence says their dynamic is far calmer. “My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time,” she told Variety. “I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson, meanwhile, shared that the first time he ever saw Lawrence act was in Winter’s Bone, back in 2010. “I just remember she was like the thing on the scene,” he said. “When that movie came out, it was like everyone went to see, ‘Okay, who is this girl?’ It kind of had like an elemental power, and you could just see that from the second her career started, she was the biggest star in the world.”
The film’s New York premiere at AMC Lincoln Square brought together an impressive lineup of Hollywood names, including LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, Andrea Calderwood, and Martin Scorsese, alongside Ramsay, Pattinson, and Lawrence.
Die My Love releases in theaters on November 7, marking Ramsay’s return to cinema and giving audiences the long-awaited pairing of two of Hollywood’s most enigmatic stars. For Lawrence, it’s a sweet — and slightly mischievous — full-circle moment. After all, what better revenge for a rejected Twilight audition than sharing top billing with Edward Cullen himself?
