Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed he recently underwent surgery to remove skin cancer, using the moment to encourage his fans to take sun safety seriously.

The 58-year-old shared photos on Instagram showing stitches running from below his ear to his jaw, later covered by a bandage.

Alongside the images, he explained that doctors had removed a basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer caused by long-term exposure to sunlight. "Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!" Ramsay wrote. He added, "Please don't forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it's not a face lift! I'd need a refund."

Basal cell carcinoma is among the most common forms of skin cancer, typically developing on parts of the body that receive the most sun exposure, including the face, neck, shoulders, and back. Health experts emphasize that reducing direct contact with ultraviolet rays is key to prevention, which can be achieved by wearing protective clothing, staying in the shade, and using sunscreen regularly. The organization praised Ramsay's openness, responding, "Glad to hear you're doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun."

Messages of support quickly poured in for the Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef star. His daughter Holly wrote, "Love you dad," while TV judge Robert Rinder shared a heart emoji. Dermatologist Dr. Rakesh Anand, who treated Ramsay, also commented, "It was a pleasure to have looked after you, and thank you for raising awareness of skin cancer and the importance of sun protection. Wishing you a smooth recovery!"

This isn't the first time he has used a personal health challenge to raise awareness. Last year, he was involved in a cycling accident while riding in Connecticut. Though he escaped without broken bones or major injuries, he was left badly bruised. He later highlighted how crucial wearing a helmet had been during the incident, stressing that the safety gear likely saved his life.

With over 80 restaurants worldwide and a string of popular television shows, Ramsay remains one of the most recognized names in the culinary world.
