Tom Hiddleston recently found himself in an uncomfortable situation when Taylor Swift's name unexpectedly came up during a live interview. The Marvel star, who dated the singer briefly in 2016, appeared on Heart Radio alongside his Life of Chuck co-star Karen Gillan on August 21 when host Devin Griffin made the slip.
The 44-year-old actor was speaking about how he enjoys reading sports articles in his spare time. "I find myself on the sports highlights," he explained. "It's football or if there's been a tennis championship I've missed. There's all these sports journalists who write really beautifully about sport, and I love reading what they've written."
Griffin then drew a comparison to Swift's own internet habits, saying, "We did just find out — Taylor Swift, big fan of a sourdough recipe blog. Very, very specific but I see how you could get into that."
At the mention of his ex, Hiddleston briefly froze, raising his eyebrows in visible discomfort before laughing it off once he realized the comment was light-hearted. Gillan quickly stepped in, joking, "That feels like an easter egg for something. I think it might be something to do with the Super Bowl." Hiddleston responded with a laugh, telling her, "You've got a deep knowledge of the NFL."
The moment quickly went viral after Heart Radio posted the clip to TikTok with the caption, "When you accidentally mention their ex..." Viewers commented on Hiddleston's reaction, with one noting, "His poor heart stopped in this moment," while another wrote, "He is so uncomfortable and the fact that no one remembers she is his ex is so funny."
Swift and Hiddleston's romance was short but highly publicized. After meeting at the Met Gala in May 2016, the pair were photographed traveling together and even meeting family before splitting in September that year. Hiddleston later reflected on the relationship, telling GQ in 2017, "Taylor is an amazing woman. She's generous and kind and lovely and we had the best time."
Since then, both stars have moved on. Swift has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since 2023, while Hiddleston has been engaged to actress Zawe Ashton since 2022. The couple welcomed their first child that same year and are currently expecting their second.
