The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to begin a new chapter in their family life by moving into Forest Lodge, a stately eight-bedroom home within Windsor Great Park. The move comes two years after settling at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, but after a challenging period that included the Princess's cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment, the couple are seeking what insiders describe as a fresh start.

Prince William and Catherine have decided to relocate with their children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, viewing Forest Lodge as their long-term family home.Windsor has become central to their lives, offering both privacy and a sense of stability that has been harder to maintain in London. The decision, they said, represents a chance to leave behind difficult memories and focus on building for the future.

Unlike Kensington Palace, which served as their official London residence, Forest Lodge offers greater seclusion while keeping them close to their children's school, Lambrook, where all three are currently enrolled. It is understood that the couple will maintain their commitment to running the household without live-in staff, a deliberate choice aimed at fostering as normal a family environment as possible.

The property itself has a rich history. In 2001 it underwent a $1.9 million restoration and was placed on the rental market at $19,000 per month. The interiors feature original stonework, intricate plaster cornices, and vaulted hallways, all of which reflect its historic character. Planning documents filed with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead indicate that minor internal alterations are now underway, including the removal of a window and modifications to a fireplace.

The move is being financed privately by the couple, with rent paid at market rates, ensuring no reliance on the Sovereign Grant. Prince William's private income from the Duchy of Cornwall, valued at $1.3 billion, continues to provide the financial independence necessary for such decisions.

For the Prince and Princess, Forest Lodge represents more than a residence. It is a symbol of permanence as they prepare for their future roles as King and Queen. After the difficulties of recent years, the new home marks the beginning of a hopeful new chapter, one defined by family, continuity, and the quiet dignity that has long underpinned their public image.
