Cardi B is facing a new legal battle after a woman filed a lawsuit accusing the rapper of battery over a 2023 microphone-throwing incident during a performance in Las Vegas. The incident occurred in July 2023 at Drai’s Beachclub when Cardi B, battling the intense desert heat, encouraged fans to splash her with water to help her cool down. According to video footage from the event, the artist appeared to welcome the splashing and even seemed amused by the interaction.

However, things quickly took a turn when one fan, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, tossed a drink toward the stage. In response, Cardi B hurled her microphone into the crowd, allegedly hitting the woman. The lawsuit, filed in Clark County, Nevada, claims that Cardi’s actions were intentional and resulted in injury, emotional trauma and humiliation. The woman asserts that she continues to suffer from the aftermath of the incident, including anxiety and fear of attending public events.

The suit accuses Cardi B of assault, battery and negligence. It also names Drai’s Management Group, the venue’s operator, claiming that the club failed to protect guests from foreseeable harm. The complaint alleges that Cardi had also thrown a microphone at a DJ the previous night, which should have prompted increased security or preventative measures by the club. Jane Doe argues that the venue was aware of Cardi’s volatile behavior and should have intervened to prevent further incidents.

Adding to the controversy, the very microphone Cardi threw was later auctioned off for nearly $100,000, with proceeds going to charity. The woman’s attorney claims this commercialization of the incident only added to her client’s distress, turning a traumatic experience into viral entertainment.

Cardi B’s legal team has dismissed the lawsuit as a baseless attempt at financial gain. Her attorney pointed out that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had already conducted an investigation and chose not to press charges due to insufficient evidence. They believe the matter was resolved and argue that this new legal action is an effort to exploit Cardi B’s fame.
