Chad Michael Murray returned to the spotlight on July 22, stepping onto the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Freakier Friday premiere, but this time, he wasn't alone. The 43-year-old actor brought his wife, actress Sarah Roemer, and their two eldest children for their first public event as a family.
Their appearance marked a rare exception. The couple has long chosen to raise their children privately, away from Hollywood's glare. Murray, best known for his roles in One Tree Hill and A Cinderella Story, has kept a low public profile in recent years. He and Roemer, 40, have three children, including a daughter born in August 2023. The names of their kids remain undisclosed.
On the carpet, the family coordinated in soft pastels. Murray wore a light pink jacket paired with dark trousers. His son, age 9, donned a sharp blue suit and sneakers. Roemer wore a mint green halter gown, mirroring their 6-year-old daughter's embroidered tulle dress.
While the occasion was celebratory, Murray has made it clear that his family's privacy remains a priority. "I'm really good at staying under the radar these days," he told Bello magazine before the birth of his first child. "We have our own life... I feel very good about my private scene. I'm going to do everything I can to protect my family and go from there."
Murray and Roemer, who married in 2015, also homeschool their children. "We travel the world together," Murray wrote in a 2023 Mother's Day tribute to Roemer. "Homeschooling, pop quizzes, meals,every mama task you can imagine."
The event doubled as a reunion, with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis joining the cast onstage. Both reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel, which opens August 8. Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra, follows the original 2003 remake that grossed $160.8 million worldwide.
The couple's appearance reminded fans that while Murray may have stepped back from constant public attention, his return for the film, and his quiet devotion to family, offers a different kind of spotlight. As he once put it: "We've got a cabin if we want to go camping. That's the life I enjoy."
