Kelly Clarkson is in no rush to return to the dating scene. While performing at her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the singer opened up to the audience about her feelings toward dating, nearly three years after finalizing her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. In a moment captured on TikTok, Clarkson shared, "Dating can be very difficult, which is why I don't." She added, "It's hard anyway. Add a spotlight, and it's just... a dumpster fire."
Clarkson was previously married to Blackstock for nearly seven years before their split in June 2020. Their divorce was finalized in March 2022. The former couple shares two children, daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington, 9.
In a November 2024 radio interview with KOST 103.5, Clarkson said she was enjoying single life and admitted that her kids prefer it that way. "They constantly bring it up, 'Please, we don't want you with anybody else,'" she shared. "They're young, it's hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad." Still, she noted that their opinions won't dictate her future. "I have expressed like, 'Hey, I love you guys but Mommy needs lovings too,'" she said.
Though her kids are hesitant about the idea, Clarkson herself has remained honest and humorous about the awkwardness of dating again. In a January 2024 interview with PEOPLE, she said, "Dating sucks. It's so awkward." She recalled being single until she was around 30 and said she actually enjoyed that stage of life. Reflecting on what she would want in a future partner, she explained, "They would have to be someone who brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me."
Clarkson emphasized her contentment with where she is now. "It's far more romantic to say, 'I want you, but I don't need anything,'" she said. "I'm really good right now. I'm having a good time."
As she continues her Las Vegas residency, which runs through November 15, Clarkson appears focused on her music, her children, and simply enjoying this chapter of her life without the pressure of dating.
