A fiery online feud has erupted between Nicki Minaj and SZA, dominating social media discussions in mid‑July. The conflict began when Nicki publicly accused Terrence “Punch” Henderson (the president of Top Dawg Entertainment and former manager of SZA) of bullying her on X after she declined a business offer. SZA’s subtle tweet, “Mercury retrograde… don’t take the bait lol silly goose,” was interpreted by Minaj as a cryptic reference to herself, triggering a wave of aggressive rebuttals.

What followed was a series of harsh insults from Nicki. She attacked SZA’s appearance and voice, likening her to a “f-king dead dog,” mocking her “freckles,” and questioning the relevance of her music. Nicki also scrutinized SZA’s career strategy, criticizing the deluxe edition of SOS and insinuating that the music industry wouldn’t even “miss” her if she vanished.

SZA responded less aggressively but firmly. She emphasized her success by highlighting her platinum-selling album, sold-out global tour with Kendrick Lamar  and healthy family life. In one post, she remarked, “I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love… GET SOME F‑‑‑‑‑ PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL !!!” Eventually, she signaled a retreat by returning to a calmer persona online and shifting attention back to her performances.

Later in the exchange, SZA released screenshots of text messages from 2020 indicating that Nicki had previously expressed interest in collaborating with her, revealing messages where Nicki praised her hook and asked for a feature. This move not only undercut Minaj’s insults, labeling her “fake” and “a clown” but also portrayed SZA as the more genuine and composed artist in the standoff.

The public reaction has been deeply divided. Nicki’s devoted fanbase, the Barbz, rallied alongside her calls for accountability and industry fairness. On the other hand, many praised SZA for her achievements and levelheaded response, applauding her ability to avoid escalating the conflict. The battle illustrates how social media can rapidly amplify minor tensions into major controversies, particularly when seasoned and emerging artists clash.
