After losing two important ladies in his life, Scotty McCreery is in grief. The former American Idol contestant revealed that on July 9, his paternal grandmother, Paquita McCreery, and maternal grandmother, Janet Hunter Cooke, passed away. Their respective ages were 85 and 93.
"My heart is completely shattered. Scotty, 31, posted a photo of himself and wife Gabi McCreery smiling with his grandmothers at their 2018 wedding on Instagram on July 10. He also wrote, "My Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita both passed away yesterday." "As I write this, I think I'm still a little shocked, but I'm choosing to think back on the wonderful memories we all shared with them both."
"There are simply too many to list. From living on the Elizabeth City farm or visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet,” the “Slow Dance” singer continued. “And then the incredible memories we made at the backyard pool in Pinehurst, all the way to visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita.”
Merrick's father, Scotty, who is expecting a second child with Gabi this year, continued by saying that their impact on him will endure.
He wrote, "They both really taught me what love is all about." "I shall really miss them. I would be grateful if you could remember my family in your prayers.
The country music artist wasn't the only family member to consider the loss; his father, Mike McCreery, and mother, Judy Cooke, both paid honor to their mothers and mothers-in-law.
Mike posted on Instagram on June 10th, saying, "It's a tough post to make, but my wonderful mother, Paquita, passed away yesterday just before 4pm." "My mother lived a full life in her ninety-three years, but I will miss her terribly. "I have so many wonderful memories that I can draw from when I get sad that she is no longer physically here with us, but I know I will see her again one day.”
He commented, "As if that wasn't enough, we also lost Judy's mother, Janet, just after 1pm a few hours ago." "She was a lovely woman, and I'm grateful for all of her support and the 40 years I spent with her. We are grateful for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
Judy wrote in her own statement that it was "hard to fathom" losing Paquita because of her deteriorating health only a few hours after her mother's passing.
She posted on Facebook the same day, saying, "My dear mother, who was 85 years old, passed away yesterday at WakeMed, just after 1pm." She had been suffering from the flu and norovirus, which caused pneumonia and dehydration. I have a broken heart. I must acknowledge that it was her time.”
