Award-winning drag performer Jinkx Monsoon is set to bring her sharp wit and theatrical brilliance to Broadway in a major summer role. Monsoon will take over the lead in the raucous Tony-winning historical comedy "Oh, Mary!" following the acclaimed run by Cole Escola, who originated the role and also won the Tony Award for best lead actor in a play. This marks another significant step in Monsoon's already vibrant stage career.

Known for her unforgettable performances on "RuPaul's Drag Race" and "Drag Race All Stars," Monsoon's stage presence has long been characterized by her razor-sharp humor, compelling timing, and unique ability to embody eccentric characters. Her announcement was met with excitement from both theatergoers and the drag community. In her statement, Monsoon praised Escola, calling them "a genius" and describing the play as "one of the best things I've ever seen." With a nod to the camaraderie and creativity of the theatre world, she remarked, "Cole is easily the funniest person alive and I'm just lucky to be alive at the same time."

"Oh, Mary!" is not your standard Broadway fare. It's a historical farce reimagining the final days of Abraham Lincoln's presidency through the chaotic and comedic lens of his relationship with his famously troubled wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. The play suggests a fresh, flamboyant take on familiar figures and delivers it all with biting satire and camp appeal. Monsoon's tenure in the role will begin August 4 and run through September 27, following Tituss Burgess's brief engagement.

Monsoon's theatrical résumé is impressive. She has appeared in major productions including "Chicago," and is currently starring in "Pirates! The Penzance Musical." Her previous portrayal of Audrey in the off-Broadway run of "Little Shop of Horrors" was met with critical acclaim, and her holiday touring shows with fellow drag artist BenDeLaCreme have developed a devoted following.

As Broadway continues to evolve and embrace more diverse and daring performances, Monsoon's role in "Oh, Mary!" represents a powerful blending of alternative drag culture with mainstream theatrical success. Her fans and the theater community alike are eager to see how she'll reinterpret the hilariously volatile Mary Todd. One thing is certain: Broadway is about to get a lot more fabulous—and perhaps a little more historically unhinged.
