According to a County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office report seen by E! News, the celebrity hairstylist's primary cause of death was determined to be pneumonia and cryptococcosis, a fungal infection, with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) as the secondary cause of death, three months after he passed away while battling an illness.
His sister, Gris Guerrero, who declared his death on February 22, revealed that he had been "diagnosed with gastritis months back." This is the most recent update.
"It was never anything to get that bad," she said in a March interview with Us Weekly. "So, we don't know if that was a part of it."
According to "the paperwork" their family was given at the time, Jesus, who worked with celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Kali Uchis, had shed twenty pounds prior to his passing, according to Gris.
His close relatives knew that "he couldn't eat without it being painful," she said, adding, "We think it could have been something with his stomach."
Jesus, 34, frequently kept his health issues private, even from his own family, the 27-year-old acknowledged.
Gris remarked, "He didn't tell a lot of people." "People who saw him said, 'You need to get rest and help,' and he seemed to believe he could push through it and get better, and unfortunately, that wasn't the case."
Jennifer posted pictures of Jesus from a trip to the United Arab Emirates just days before he passed away. And in the period after his passing, she was among the numerous people who voiced their sorrow.
"You were quiet and unassuming, but so powerful, gentle and kind and loving, and your presence was felt the minute you walked into any room," Jennifer wrote on Instagram at the time. "You never asked to be the center of attention. Your talent and heart did the same with ease as your artistry, so you never had to make a sound to be recognized."
Kylie, meanwhile, called Jesus "more than" his friend. "He was a source of laughter, solace, love, and unwavering support," she underlined. I don't know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side."
