Tommy Dorfman is bidding farewell to a phase of his life. According to court documents acquired by E! News, the 13 Reasons Why star filed for divorce from her wife, Elise Williams, on May 16 in New York City, after almost two years of marriage.

The actress came out as transgender and separated from her spouse of five years, Peter Zurkuhlen, in 2021, the same year Tommy, 33, met Elise on Hinge. She disclosed their engagement in August 2022 while appearing on Rachel Bilson's Broad Ideas podcast. She did not disclose her fiancée's identity at the time, only that she was seeing "a gay girl."

Tommy went into greater detail about their romance two years later in a 2024 essay for Vogue, revealing that the couple had become engaged after only a few months of courtship.

Tommy writes, "The first few months of our relationship set the tone for how we would eventually get married," in the article. "We got engaged two months into dating."

In an Instagram post that has since been removed, she also disclosed that they had secretly eloped at the end of 2023, writing, "I married my best friend and didn’t tell anyone except @hunterabrams, who came and photographed us towards the end of last year."

Tommy told Vogue that she "fell in love with someone who doesn't fetishize" her, demonstrating how their relationship gave her a vital sense of worth.

Tommy was as proud as she was to celebrate their romance.

"We do see the benefit of celebrating our love with the world," she stated, "and, frankly, the importance of people seeing trans and queer love en vogue."

Only seven months after the Vogue piece was published, Tommy's December 2024 Instagram post alluded to their breakup, despite their quick-paced romance.

As Tommy captioned a set of pictures in which Elise was conspicuously missing, "heartbreak feels good in a place like this."
