Mia Threapleton was only familiar with her life outside of Hollywood. These days, the daughter of Kate Winslet and Jim Threapleton spends a lot of time on film sets. She purposefully grew up outside of Hollywood, even though she had a Titanic star for a mother.
In an interview with Elle that was published on May 22, the 24-year-old Mia stated, "I really could count on one hand—both hands possibly—the amount of times that I went to set as a kid." My mother made a concerted effort to keep that world apart from our domestic lives. That was something she truly desired.
Kate, who also has two children with her husband, Edward Abel Smith, Bear, 11, and Joe, 21, with Sam Mendes, wanted her children to be independent.
Mia remembered her mother saying, "All of their experiences will be theirs and theirs alone." "Which is precisely what has occurred."
She does, after all, remember a carefree childhood filled with outdoor experiences.
"I ran through fields a lot when I was growing up," Mia said. Looking back, it seems almost like a novel. Making tents out of tarps and getting filthy knees were commonplace.
And she attributes that tranquility to avoiding social media.
"Oh, good job," people say when you don't have it, but I've never had it, so I'm not really sure what the ‘well done’ is for',” she noted. “I don’t want it. I don’t want to worry about dropping my phone out of a tree if I’m climbing one because I’m trying to take a photo of something.”
Although Kate has chosen to keep her kids out of the spotlight, Mia and Joe costarred with her in the 2022 season of I Am Ruth on the ITV network. According to Kate, the experience felt "natural," and they had seen the highs and lows of acting preparation off-screen alongside her.
In February 2024, Kate raved about her two oldest children in an interview with Net-A-Porter, saying, "Luckily, they're good." It seemed typical. Since they were able to read, these children have been testing [me] on [my] lines. They had already witnessed my fear. They have experienced it alongside me.
