Tom Cruise has mastered the art of making an entrance—and this time it was posing on top of London’s BFI IMAX cinema. Action hero Tom Cruise, 62, left viewers stunned on May 11, 2025, when he appeared on top of Britain’s biggest cinema screen, draped in enormous promotional wraps for his new blockbuster Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

The top-of-the-building cameo by Cruise was not just a photo op—it was Cruise in a nutshell: bold, unexpected, and showman. Ground-level fans captured video and photos of the Hollywood actor waving from the building, smiling, and looking out over the view. Security did emerge, but Cruise appeared completely at ease, adding another ground-level “stunt” to his legend-in-the-making.

This was no accident. The star was in London to accept the accolade of the BFI Fellowship award, the British Film Institute’s highest honor, in recognition of his body of work for cinema. And with the sequel Mission: Impossible due to open at the Cannes Film Festival only a few days hence, this rooftop scene was an audacious publicity stunt.

The Last Reckoning, released in theaters on May 23, is the highly anticipated follow-up to Dead Reckoning – Part One (2023) and purportedly the last film in the franchise. Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, who this time around fights against “The Entity,” a powerful artificial intelligence that threatens global peace. It incorporates some of the most daring stunts Cruise has ever done—and includes a stunt filmed entirely in an underwater set built inside a specially constructed tank measuring 8.5 million liters.

Cruise is infamous for doing stunts himself, ranging from clinging to the sides of airplanes to jumping off clifftop motorbikes. Even the entrance through the rooftop, though much less risky, still suited perfectly with his style of combining real-life spectacle and celluloid illusion.

Social media enthusiasts were quick to rejoice over the instant. “Only Tom Cruise would just walk nonchalantly onto the roof of an IMAX like nothing,” one fan tweeted. Another joked, “This guy’s life is literally just one giant Mission: Impossible scene.”

With Cannes premiere just around the corner, excitement over the film is running at a fever pitch. If this stunt on the rooftop is anything to go by, Cruise is again going all out to make Ethan Hunt’s final mission one that won’t be easily forgotten.
