In one of the biggest upsets of the tennis season, Britain's Cameron Norrie defeated world number one Carlos Alcaraz 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 at the Paris Masters, ending the Spaniard's impressive 17-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 level. Norrie, ranked 31st in the world, delivered a gritty and composed performance to secure the biggest win of his career after two hours and 22 minutes of high-intensity tennis.

Alcaraz, fresh off his Tokyo title, looked uncharacteristically out of rhythm, committing 54 unforced errors and showing visible frustration toward his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. After claiming the first set, Alcaraz faltered as Norrie grew increasingly confident, saving crucial break points in the final set and holding firm to seal victory.

"This is massive for me," Norrie said after the match. "I've been coming back from injury and just trying to enjoy my tennis again. To beat the world number one, especially someone playing as well as Carlos, is incredible."

The win marks Norrie's first-ever victory against a world number one and propels him into the tournament's last sixteen, equaling his best Paris performance from 2021. It also marks his first time reaching this stage at a Masters event since Rome 2023.

For Alcaraz, the loss was his first early exit since March, breaking a dominant run that included Masters titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati. With Italy's Jannik Sinner still in contention for the Paris crown, Alcaraz now risks losing his year-end number one ranking.

Norrie's triumph is a testament to perseverance and mental strength. After an uneven season and recovery from injury, his victory over the top-ranked player in the world signals that the British star is far from finished. As he prepares to face his next opponent, Norrie's Paris performance will be remembered as a masterclass in composure, determination, and belief.
