Dustin Poirier is in the news after an unfortunate incident that occurred this past Sunday. According to TMZ, "The Diamond" was arrested for allegedly being drunk in public, although he was released just a few hours later. Far from denying it, the former UFC fighter posted an enigmatic message on Instagram that could confirm the events.

Poirier is one of the greatest legends of the UFC lightweight division. He was the interim champion, and came close to becoming the undisputed champion on as many as three occasions, being submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. In addition, he has two victories over Conor McGregor.

The American fighter retired in July 2025, but he had hinted at a comeback in recent weeks, claiming that he would be willing to have one last dance if he were given the opportunity to face Justin Gaethje for the undisputed title to settle their trilogy — both have finished each other.

However, everything has gone wrong in the last few hours, as TMZ has reported. "Poirier, 37, was arrested for public intoxication, a misdemeanor, at 6:38 p.m... before being released several hours later, at 10:15 p.m. The circumstances that led to Dustin's arrest are unknown. Public intoxication can carry up to one year in jail and/or a fine, if convicted".
