Host nation Finland survived a real scare on the opening night of EuroBasket 2025 in a local derby with Sweden, eventually securing a 93-90 victory at the Nokia Arena in Tampere as the sides began their respective Group B campaigns. The two rivals' preparations for the tournament could not have been more different, as Finland beat Belgium and Poland twice each, while Sweden lost all four of their warm-up matches, including a heavy loss to Portugal and a narrow defeat to Finland's conquerors Poland.
