Los Angeles Dodgers icon Clayton Kershaw has announced that he will retire following the 2025 Major League Baseball season, bringing an illustrious 18-year career to a close. The 37-year-old pitcher leaves behind a record of excellence that includes three National League Cy Young Awards, the 2014 Most Valuable Player award, and two World Series championships in 2020 and 2024.

Kershaw, who spent his entire career with the Dodgers, will make his final regular-season start at Dodger Stadium against the San Francisco Giants before the team closes the season on the road. Though he has battled injuries in recent years, he remained a force on the mound in 2025, earning his 11th All-Star selection and compiling a 10-2 record with a 3.53 ERA. With the Dodgers currently leading the NL West, he may yet have one final postseason run before stepping away.

His career statistics are remarkable: 222 wins, 96 losses, and a 2.54 ERA across 452 games. His dominance includes 25 complete games and 15 shutouts, both leading among active pitchers. Beyond the field, Kershaw was recognised with the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award for his community work, solidifying his legacy as both an athlete and humanitarian.

Tributes poured in immediately following the announcement. Dodgers owner Mark Walter called his career "legendary" and thanked him for inspiring fans worldwide while contributing to charitable causes. Analysts agreed that his achievements all but guarantee induction into the Hall of Fame.

For fans, Kershaw's retirement marks the end of an era. Known for his pinpoint control, devastating curveball and unwavering dedication, he became a symbol of consistency and excellence. His journey, defined by both triumphs and challenges, has etched him permanently into baseball history. While his playing days draw to a close, his influence on the Dodgers, the sport, and the wider community will endure for generations.
