Wisconsin officials confirmed that Minocqua Brewing Company, run by progressive activist Kirk Bangstad, will have its alcohol permit revoked on August 4.
The decision follows a June raid in which regulators seized beer allegedly transported across state lines without proper permits or taxes.
Bangstad, who operates both the brewery and a liberal super PAC, has long used his business to criticize Donald Trump and other Republicans. He previously vowed to host a "Free Beer Day" when Trump dies, a pledge that drew national attention.
He insists the revocation is politically motivated, calling the alleged violations "laughable" and promising to fight the state "tooth and nail."
"Wisconsin practically invented the term 'craft beer,' yet Wisconsin's Department of Revenue is trying to shut down the state's most progressive brewery for violations that can only be described as laughable," Bangstad wrote.
"We're going to fight the state of Wisconsin tooth and nail, and once again, they'll have to pry me out of my taprooms before I stop selling beer to thirsty progressives who come to visit us."
The Department of Revenue said the move is part of "fair and consistent enforcement" of alcohol laws. Officials cited violations tied to distribution and warehouse permits, stressing that all licensees must follow regulations.
Bangstad has clashed with authorities before. In April, FBI agents interviewed him after a social media post referencing an alleged assassination attempt on Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The brewery's account wrote: "Well, we almost got #freebeerday." Bangstad later insisted he had no intent to cause harm and denied ties to violent groups.
Despite the controversy, Bangstad says his brewery remains popular among progressives across the Midwest, selling more than $2 million worth of beer and merchandise annually.
He argues the state is targeting him for his outspoken politics, writing: "Attempting to shut down a brewery that has the largest social media following in the state... is anti-American and anti-Wisconsin."
The company has until August 4 to appeal the revocation and can continue operating during the process. Bangstad has launched a legal defense fund, urging supporters to help him fight what he calls "heavy-handed" political retribution.
