Sony’s upcoming superhero film Spider Man Brand New Day has already made history long before its theatrical release. The excitement surrounding Tom Holland’s return as the iconic web slinger has translated into unprecedented online engagement, with the film’s trailer achieving a milestone no other movie trailer has reached before.

Released on March 17, the trailer quickly captured global attention. Within just four days, it surpassed one billion views, officially becoming the first film trailer ever to cross that mark. According to WaveMetrix, the numbers have continued to climb, with the trailer now sitting at over 1.1 billion views. This achievement firmly places Spider Man Brand New Day at the top as the most viewed movie trailer in history.

The pace at which the trailer gained traction is just as remarkable as the total number. In its first 24 hours, the trailer amassed an astonishing 718.6 million views, setting a new record for the biggest trailer launch ever, not only for films but also for video games. Even more impressive, it reached 373 million views within the first eight hours alone, a figure that had already secured its place in movie history.

Before this, the record for the biggest 24 hour debut was held by the trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine, which generated 365 million views after debuting during the 2024 Super Bowl. Spider Man Brand New Day did not just break that record, it nearly doubled it, highlighting the immense anticipation surrounding the project.

The trailer also surpassed another major milestone previously set by the Grand Theft Auto VI video game trailer, which had achieved 475 million views in its first 24 hours. This puts Spider Man Brand New Day ahead across both film and gaming categories, reinforcing its wide appeal and global reach.

This level of excitement is not entirely surprising given the success of its predecessor, Spider Man No Way Home. That film previously set its own records with 355.5 million views in 24 hours and went on to earn 1.9 billion dollars at the global box office. The new installment continues from where that story left off, with Peter Parker navigating a world where his identity as Spider Man has been erased from public memory.

Tom Holland reprises his role alongside a strong supporting cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with production led by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.

With its theatrical release set for July 31, Spider Man Brand New Day is already shaping up to be one of the most significant cinematic events of the year. If the trailer’s record breaking performance is any indication, the film is likely to continue making history once it arrives in theaters.
