Hulu is expanding its animation slate with a new original project, The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y., an animated action comedy from writers and executive producers Branson Reese and Nicole Silverberg. The series is currently in development at 20th Television Animation and adds to what has become an increasingly active period for Hulu in the animated comedy space.

The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y. centers on three nerdy misfit high school freshmen who are unexpectedly recruited into an elite secret spy school. The premise blends the awkwardness of teenage life with high stakes espionage, setting the stage for a fast paced comedy driven by character dynamics as much as action. By focusing on freshmen who are already outsiders, the series promises a mix of insecurity, ambition, and chaotic teamwork as the trio navigates both adolescence and covert missions.

Reese and Silverberg bring strong comedic credentials to the project. Reese is an LA based writer, actor, and cartoonist originally from Washington DC. He created and starred in the FX animated series Swan Boy, which was based on his cult comic of the same name. He currently voices Frank Lloyd Light on the PBS Kids series City Island and serves as supervising producer on the upcoming Netflix animated comedy Strip Law, where he also voices multiple characters. His previous writing credits include We Bare Bears and Oh My God Yes. Beyond television, Reese created the D and D podcast Rude Tales of Magic and authored the comics collection Hell Was Full.

Silverberg is an Emmy nominated and WGA Award winning writer and comedian from Tucson, Arizona. She most recently developed a comedy at NBC with The Lonely Island. Before that, she created the animated series Bad Crimes at Netflix, produced by Greg Daniels and Mike Judge. Silverberg previously worked as a supervising writer on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, earning a GLAAD Award during her tenure. She also spent years as an editor at Reductress, the satirical online women’s magazine known for its sharp comedic voice.

In addition to Reese and Silverberg, executive producers on The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y. include Steven Fisher and Trevor Engelson for Underground, along with Patrick Newman of Mosaic and Tovah Silbermann. The involvement of multiple experienced producers signals strong backing for the project as it moves through development.

The series joins a growing lineup of animated comedies at Hulu. The streamer recently picked up Deano, a half hour adult animated comedy from creators Dean Thomas and David Ferrier, and announced development on Swap Meet, another half hour animated comedy starring comedian Ralph Barbosa, who will also executive produce alongside writer Isaac Gonzalez.

With The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y., Hulu continues to invest in distinctive comedic voices and high concept animation. By pairing Reese’s offbeat sensibility with Silverberg’s sharp satirical edge, the series aims to deliver a blend of absurd humor and action driven storytelling that fits squarely within Hulu’s expanding animation strategy.
