Zootopia 2 has officially claimed the top spot in Walt Disney Animation Studios history, becoming the highest-grossing animated film the studio has ever released.

The sequel has earned $1.46 billion worldwide since its late-November debut, edging past Frozen 2, which previously held the record with a $1.45 billion global haul in 2019. The milestone confirms Zootopia 2 as Disney Animation's most commercially successful film to date.

Much of the film's dominance has come from international markets, where it has generated more than $1.1 billion, including a massive performance in China. The strong overseas turnout has pushed the film into the top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time, making it the biggest Hollywood release of 2025 so far.

The sequel also crossed the $1 billion mark in record time, becoming the fastest PG-rated and animated release from a Motion Picture Association studio to reach that threshold. It additionally delivered the biggest global opening weekend ever for an animated film and ranked among the largest worldwide debuts of any movie in 2025.

While Zootopia 2 now sits atop Disney Animation's box office rankings, it still trails China's Ne Zha 2, which remains the highest-grossing animated film globally with more than $2 billion in earnings.

The film reunites Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, who team up once again to solve a high-stakes new case in the sprawling animal metropolis. Returning cast members include Idris Elba, Shakira, and Jenny Slate, while newcomers such as Ke Huy Quan, Quinta Brunson, Andy Samberg, Fortune Feimster, and Danny Trejo expand the franchise's voice lineup.

Beyond theaters, Disney has also seen renewed interest in the Zootopia franchise on Disney+, with streaming numbers for the original 2016 film and Zootopia+ shorts rising alongside the sequel's theatrical run.

With strong audience scores, positive critical reception, and record-breaking box office results, Zootopia 2 has firmly established itself as one of Disney's most successful animated releases of all time.
