Chris Evans is once again ready to join the Avengers. Over five years after handing over his shield to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, the Captain America star's appearance in the latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer confirms that he will reprise his Steve Rogers role in the upcoming Marvel film.

"Steve Rogers will return," the trailer, which was released on December 23, states in the title card. "In Avengers: Doomsday, December 18, 2026."

In the beginning of the trailer, Steve is seen riding his motorcycle down a rural road before approaching a house. Flashes of Steve wearing a wedding band and holding a baby provide insight into his life since reuniting with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and deciding to stay in the mid-twentieth century in Avengers: Endgame.

Later, Steve is seen opening an old crate before removing and admiring his Captain America suit, foreshadowing what is to come in the next franchise installment.

For fans of Chris' Captain America, his return is a welcome surprise. After all, the 44-year-old—who welcomed a baby girl with wife Alba Baptista in October—previously said it would be difficult for him to step back into the Marvel franchise.

"I'll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience," he told GQ in 2023. "But I'm also very precious about it. It is something that I am extremely proud of. And, as I previously stated, I sometimes find it difficult to believe it happened at all. And I wouldn't want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab, if it didn't meet expectations, or if it felt disconnected from the original thing. "So, not anytime soon."

Furthermore, Chris duped fans earlier this year by claiming he was "sad" to miss out on the fun of filming the upcoming Marvel film with Anthony, Sebastian Stan, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and others.

"It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible," he told ScreenRant when he left, "and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren't invited to the party."
