The sequel to Amazon MGM’s 2024 hit Road House is picking up steam, with Leila George confirmed as the female lead and Dave Bautista officially signing on to join previously announced star Jake Gyllenhaal. The new film follows the success of Doug Liman’s slick, action-packed remake, which became one of Prime Video’s biggest streaming titles last year. According to Amazon MGM, Road House drew an impressive 80 million views globally in its first two months, setting the stage for a follow-up.

Ilya Naishuller, best known for directing Nobody and Heads of State, will step into the director’s chair for the sequel. Will Beal is writing the screenplay, with production handled by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gyllenhaal and Josh McLaughlin for Nine Stories. Plot and character details are being kept under wraps for now, but the film is expected to retain the adrenaline-fueled style that made the first installment so popular with audiences.

Australian-born Leila George, whose career continues to gain momentum, is currently in production on Ryan Murphy’s American Love Story, where she plays Kelly Klein, a confidante to Carolyn Bessette and ex-wife of fashion designer Calvin Klein. George most recently appeared in Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV+ drama Disclaimer, a performance that earned her a Critics Choice Award nomination. She is represented by WME, Strand Entertainment, United Agents in the U.K., and United Management in Australia.

Bautista’s addition brings extra muscle and charisma to the cast. The former WWE champion and Guardians of the Galaxy star has a busy slate ahead, fresh off a cameo in Paramount’s relaunch of The Naked Gun spoof franchise. He will next be seen in Trap House and Amazon MGM Studios’ The Wrecking Crew. He is represented by WME and attorney Karl Austen. Known for seamlessly blending physical presence with comedic timing, Bautista is expected to add a new dynamic to the Road House universe.

With Naishuller’s kinetic action style behind the camera, a script from Beal, and a cast that now boasts Gyllenhaal, George, and Bautista, Road House 2 is shaping up to be a high-energy sequel with plenty of star power. Production details remain undisclosed, but anticipation is already high among fans of the first film and action cinema alike. If the original’s streaming numbers are any indication, the sequel could once again dominate Prime Video’s charts when it finally arrives.
