The Pura X Max debuts in China today, arriving before similar designs rumored from competing smartphone makers. The launch confirms Huawei as the first company to actually release a wide format foldable device for consumers, following last week's design reveal with full pricing and specifications now official.

Two configurations of the Pura X Max are open for preorder immediately. The base model begins at 10,999 yuan, roughly 1,600 dollars, offering 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB of storage, while a 512GB option costs slightly more. A higher tier Collector's Edition raises memory to 16GB and storage up to 1TB, with pricing climbing accordingly across its variants.

The defining feature is its broader, book style folding approach, differing from the tall, narrow foldables that have dominated the category so far. When closed, the device presents a 5.4 inch outer display capable of reaching 3500 nits of brightness. Opening it reveals a larger 7.7 inch internal screen that peaks at 3000 nits, with both panels supporting adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1 to 120Hz for smoother visuals and improved efficiency.

Rival brands are believed to be developing comparable wide foldable phones, but none have yet reached the market. Reports and early leaks suggest future devices are in progress, though expected release windows stretch into the latter half of 2026, leaving Huawei with a notable early advantage in shaping this new design direction.

Internally, the Pura X Max is powered by Huawei's Kirin 9030 Pro processor and backed by a 5,300mAh battery. Charging support includes fast wired speeds up to 66 watts

alongside 50 watt wireless capabilities, rounding out a device positioned at the forefront of foldable innovation.

This early release may influence how developers and consumers adapt to wider multitasking layouts, potentially encouraging software optimization that takes advantage of the expanded horizontal space. If adoption proves strong, the design could shift expectations for productivity and media use on foldable devices, setting a precedent that competitors will need to follow closely once their own alternatives are ready for launch.
