Nissan has fired a direct shot at Toyota’s LandCruiser GR Sport with the reveal of its all-new 2026 Y63 Patrol Nismo – a road-focused performance SUV that brings power, presence, and precision to the full-size segment.
Unveiled overnight in the Middle East and the US, the Patrol Nismo (sold as the Armada Nismo in North America) marks the return of a nameplate previously seen on the Y62-generation Patrol. Now built on the new Y63 platform, it’s gunning for rivals not just off-road, but on-road, where it truly shines.
Unlike the standard Patrol, which is tuned for off-road capability, the Nismo version drops its ground clearance from 244mm to 195mm. That’s thanks to a new lowered suspension setup and aggressive bodykit, firmly shifting its focus to tarmac performance.
Visually, the Y63 Patrol Nismo draws inspiration from the Z Nismo sports car, with a distinctive Stealth Grey paint option exclusive to the model. The new front grille channels more air to the radiator, while the reshaped bumper improves brake cooling. It also gets a front splitter, side air vents, skirts, and a prominent rear diffuser with a Formula E-style fog light. A red-accented extended rear spoiler and signature Nismo red highlights complete the performance look.
Dimensionally, it’s 90mm longer and 40mm wider than a regular Patrol. However, those visual upgrades come at a cost to off-road geometry – with approach, breakover, and departure angles trimmed by up to four degrees.
Inside, the black-and-red theme continues. Leather and suede upholstery are used throughout, with red seat belts, embroidered headrest logos, and a steering wheel featuring a red 12-o’clock marker adding flair. Five colour choices are offered, including the exclusive Stealth Grey, and optional two-tone finishes with a black roof.
Beneath the surface, the Y63 Patrol Nismo features bespoke adaptive dampers, sharper power steering, and refined vehicle dynamics. It rides on lightweight 22-inch forged alloy wheels from Japanese manufacturer Rays, helping offset some weight, though it still tips the scales at 2817kg – 4kg more than standard.
Performance takes a serious step up, with its twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine now producing 369kW in Sport Mode (up from 317kW), while torque remains at 700Nm. A Nismo-tuned exhaust enhances its aural character, with power sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic.
For now, the Patrol Nismo is limited to left-hand-drive markets. However, Nissan Australia has confirmed it will be the first right-hand-drive market for the Y63 Patrol, with orders opening in late 2026. Specification details will be confirmed closer to launch.
