Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes delighted fans with a rare public appearance together during Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The moment doubled as a birthday celebration for Mendes, who turned 52, as Gosling surprised her with a lively tribute in front of the studio audience.

Gosling first asked the crowd if they would help sing Happy Birthday before a staff member escorted Mendes from backstage to the stage.

As she walked out to cheers, the actress appeared surprised while Gosling greeted her with a smile and guided her to center stage. A marching band soon followed, performing the classic birthday tune as colorful confetti drifted across the studio.

Mendes, dressed in relaxed jeans and a printed shirt layered with a blue striped cardigan, laughed as the celebration unfolded.

Gosling opted for a black shirt, matching trousers and a tailored gray blazer for the occasion.

The pair, who first met while filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011, have famously kept their relationship largely private. Together they share two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, and rarely attend public events side by side.

The appearance marked the first time in years that the couple stepped out publicly together, delighting the studio audience and viewers at home.

Gosling has been promoting his upcoming science fiction film Project Hail Mary, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 20.

In the film, he portrays a teacher turned astronaut who wakes alone aboard a spacecraft and must save Earth from a mysterious cosmic threat. Despite their fame, the couple continues to guard their family life carefully today.
